The Friends of the Library newsletter started back in 1978 and over 120 issues were published before a change in name and format. Early issues were typed and mimeographed on colored paper.

In the 1980s, as computers became more popular, we became a little more sophisticated in our methods. Until then there was no set schedule of publication and the newsletter appeared randomly, depending on what events there were to publicize. In January 2006, we began publishing BookEnds every two months for a total of six issues each year.
